About Sushi

Sushi has emerged from the unknown as a delicious, health-boosting fast food meal. It is now very popular in western culture, as a healthier alternative to a sandwich or burger when you're on the go during the day.

There is a common misconception about what sushi actually is - strictly speaking, sushi is a short or medium grain type of rice which is stuck together with vinegar to form shapes.

There are many types of sushi. Nigiri sushi, for example, are cigar-shaped blocks of rice with raw fish (sashimi), cooked fish, egg, vegetables or even sometimes meat placed on top. These toppings can also be tied on with a piece of edible seaweed (nori). Another type of sushi is the maki roll. This is sushi rice rolled up inside nori seaweed, and filled with a choice of filling like those used in nigiri. For both types of sushi, they are often eaten with accompaniments such as wasabi horseradish paste, ginger and soy sauce.
